Closing of the Bones Ceremony

Service Description

This is a ceremony to energetically and physically “close up” a new mother after birth. This closing up ceremony generally feels very comforting and elating, and is a full circle experience from the energetic and physical experience of “opening” that occurs during birth. It is a time to honor her transition to motherhood, and integrate this experience into her being. The ceremony begins by creating a sacred space in a soothing environment. A short craniosacral fascial therapy session is offered (30 minutes), followed by a grounding massage with herbal oils on the mother’s hands, feet, and womb (optional). Next, the mother is wrapped up with several rebozo cloths around her body, to close up her body. Soft music and singing bowls are played while she rests. Afterward, the mother is gently unwrapped, emerging from the experience fully integrated into her new mother’s body, and her new role as mother. There is an opportunity to share her experience and anything else that may have come up during the ceremony, over a warm cup of herbal tea. Closing of the Bones ceremony can be offered anytime after birth, and is a wonderful gift to new mothers. Many mothers wait until the traditional 40 day postpartum mark, but some women enjoy this ceremony earlier. This ceremony can even be helpful years after birth, if you never got the opportunity to enjoy this ritual early on in motherhood. This ceremony can also be beneficial to those who have experienced a loss through miscarriage or stillbirth.
